INT QUEST COMPOUND LABORATORY DAY
[Benton and Hadji are in the Questworld lab. Benton is hanging up his white lab coat in a locker. Hadji is sitting at his computer station, frowning with concentration and typing fervently at the keyboard.]
BENTON: Don't work too late, Hadji. Remember, we're having dinner soon.
HADJI: Thank you, Dr. Quest. I will be finished shortly.
[Benton smiles indulgently at his adopted son and leaves, closing the door softly behind him. Hadji returns his attention to his computer screen.]
HADJI: If only I did not find it so difficult to concentrate, perhaps I would be able to finish this...
[He reaches for his trackball and clicks something on the screen.]
IRIS: Invalid data.
HADJI: What?
IRIS: Invalid data. Would you like to try another option?
[HADJI growls and clicks "Cancel".]
HADJI: It is no use. I simply cannot focus on this at the moment.
[He shuts down the program, returning to the Questworld main screen. His hand idly moves the trackball and he clicks on the screen, seemingly at random. A list of names appears on the screen; Hadji blinks.]
{Music Intro}
[He clicks on one of the names, and a picture of Pearl appears on his screen with her name and a button below it: PERSONAL INFORMATION. Hadji looks at the picture for a long moment, then before his eyes it seems to come to life as Pearl's image looks at him and bursts into one of her rare, sunny smiles.]

[Hadji smiles back]

[he sits back in his chair, singing to the image on the screen]
people say I'm crazy and that I am blind
[he shrugs, almost apologetically]
risking it all in a glance
[he quickly looks over his shoulder to make sure no one's about to come in]
and how you got me blind is still a mystery
[he looks back at the screen]

[he looks at the tempting "PERSONAL INFORMATION" button]

[he shakes his head, smiling gently]

[he clicks the trackball again]

[he gets up from his chair]

[he faces the screen]

[Pearl's ID photo appears on the screen]

[the image looks down at him]

[Hadji takes a step towards the screen]

[Pearl seems to be listening to him]

[Hadji spreads his hands out]

[Pearl smiles more shyly this time, and then her image blurs and begins to shift into another picture]

[Hadji rubs the back of his neck, smiling a little]
but I guess it shows

[Pearl actually IS standing behind him, looking at him with her cool, inscrutable blue Asian eyes. Hadji looks a bit flustered for a moment, then decides there's no point in feeling silly about her walking in on him. At least it wasn't Jonny...]
