I managed to get hold one of Winnie Lims fanfics. I think it was First Contact and I thought it was so adorable. A storyline has been playing around in my head for a while, and I figured this would be like a perfect format for it. Well, I had a deal with the little people living inside my head and they gave in to compromise. So ladies and gentlemen I proudly announce my first and probably final attempt (depending on reader reaction) on writing HR.
Before going on, let me tell you stuff about what to expect. The thing is, I wont reveal all the characters until MAYBE the very end. I wont even reveal the timeline. It can be from the past, present, future or some weird alternate dimension. That way, I stay safe. ^_^

First Contact of Another Kind
Part 1: Introductions and Missions
by Ina-chan

Life can be funny sometimes. One moment youre hurrying back to work from your lunch break, five minutes later the university pathology lab you work for is being held hostage by your boss, along with a couple of radical students who took advantage of the situation. Talk about stress.

I really dont know how it started. I did have a feeling that the Doc was not really having the month of his life. Im his assistant by the way. I dont really know much about the Docs past. Hes a very private man. But I do know that he lost his first wife a long time ago. After all that time, he finally found love again only to be shattered to nothingness three weeks past.

Typically, I try to keep personal lives distant between student and teacher. But my relationship with the Doc had grown deeper over the years to that of a father and child. So it really came as a shock to show up in an empty building, to be pushed around by an insensitive officer, or to learn that my mentor had gone over the deep end and threatened to release the smallpox virus and other nasty litte critters into the atmosphere.

Watch it! I yelped as my assailant continued searching through my clothing,This is a violation of my rights, you know.

Yeah, yeah whatever. Ive heard it all before, The young officer muttered, Looks like your identification checks out.

I already told you that! I retorted angrily

Geez. Temper, temper, He replied, his voice full of laughter, A personality true to your hair, aint cha Carrots?

Even as a child, I have always despised that nickname. I came to hate it more hearing with his mocking voice. I turned around and finally had a clear view of my tormentor and stared with shock. He looked no more than a slender child in a S.W.A.T. uniform. Id say maybe a little over sixteen or seventeen. I felt a little insulted that this small fragile-looking creature was able to pin me to the wall. Then again he did have a gun and I didnt. I grabbed my confiscated belongings from his outstretched hand and tried to control myself from knocking that amused grin from his mouth. Even so, there was this gnawing sensation from the pit of my soul that I was supposed to know him from somewhere.

Come on, he said motioning to the hallway, You can help me figure my way around here.

And why should I help you? Lets see you give me a good reason that will convince me otherwise, you obnoxious little...

Because if you dont, a couple of my trigger-happy colleagues with no disregard to the work you are doing here are going to crash this place. He replied as if he read my mind.

Good reason.

As far as I know, every sector has been evacuated, He began. Then he gave me a look, Then again, after you popping out just like that out of nowhere. I can be wrong. I need to know every route we can take to the all the labs holding dangerous pathogen samples. I also want to know everything you know about Omega Strike.

For someone whos supposed to be trained to be an anti-terrorist police officer, he sure doesnt sound like he does his homework, Arent you supposed to know that already before you barge into the building?

My companion paled considerably, Well... I...

He suddenly tensed and pulled ourselves into a room, as two of the aforementioned radical students rounded a corner and headed toward our direction. Rude, unorthodox, and very unprofessional my companion may be, I have to admire his reflexes and quick thinking.

Man, the old coots really long gone, isnt he? one of the men said

You said it, dude, his comrade replied, Ya think this whole fiasco is gonna work?

Aww cmon, show a little enthusiasm. Were doing this for the Cause. Think of the future. Well be making the history books.

I dunno dude, taking advantage of a crazy old man seems a bit too extreme for me. Dont you think the Big Man is taking this whole thing a bit too far?

Well, if you wanna change the future, you do what you gotta do. Sides even if this whole thing turns out to be a big bust, weve got the old man to take the blame.

I still dont feel to good about it...

Sheesh, this isnt the time to get a conscience...

I gritted my teeth the whole time I was listening to their sick conversation. How dare they! They would be willing to endanger the lives of innocent people, as well as ruin the life a good man down on his luck for their own selfish purposes? I glanced at my companion and saw my anger mirrored intensely in his expressive blue eyes.

He looked at me and flashed me a lopsided grin, You with me?

Looks like I dont have a choice, do I?

Thus, began my adventure with this annoying... person.
