Frozen
A JQ Music Video
Rating: Sorta A, sorta HR (Hadji/Pearl)
Original song: Madonna
[As the music begins, Hadji is sitting in lotus position in total blackness. We see him from above, and the camera does a slow spiral zoom downward until finally we see his face in close-up. He opens his eyes and stands up, looking around, somewhat confused.]
you only see what your eyes want to see
[before him is a huge statue of himself, sitting in lotus position, carved out of ice]
how can life be what you want it to be?
[Hadji steps forward as if to touch the statue]
you're frozen
[the ground (ice?) gives way under his feet]
when your heart's not open
[he lands in a forest of barren trees, all made out of ice]
you're so consumed with how much you get
[he walks forward, wide eyes taking in his bleak surroundings]
you waste your time with hate and regret
[he touches a branch, and it dissolves into shards of ice]
you're broken
when your heart's not open
[a ray of light touches his face from somewhere ahead of him]
if I could melt your heart
[he looks ahead into a small clearing]
we'd never be apart
[a ghost-image of Pearl, her hair unbound and flowing, wearing a billowing white dress]
give yourself to me
[she holds her arms out to him beseechingly, and he walks to her]
you are the key
[as he moves to take her in his arms, she disintegrates into snowflakes, leaving a key made of ice (or glass) on the frozen ground at his feet]
now there's no point in placing the blame
[Hadji picks up the key, looks at it]
and you should know I suffer the same
[he looks up and walks out of the woods onto a barren, snow-patched field]
if I lose you
my heart will be broken
[a palace made out of ice stands before him, and he walks toward it]
love is a bird, she needs to fly
[birds made out of ice fly over his head towards the palace]
let all the hurt inside of you die
[one by one, the birds turn to flurries of snowflakes, half-burying the spires of the castle]
you're frozen
when your heart's not open
[an ice dragon rises up from the ground between Hadji and the palace]
if I could melt your heart
[it breathes a cloud of white mist at him]
we'd never be apart
[he holds up a hand to protect himself, his hand closes around the mist, and it forms a kukri, an Indian short sword]
give yourself to me
[he charges forward, ducking underneath the dragon's freezing breath]
you are the key
[he strikes the dragon's breast, and it dissolves into crystal shards that fall around him]
(instrumental)
[he walks up to the palace gate, puts the key in its place, and turns it. The immense white doors swing slowly open, to reveal a great circular chamber. As he walks inside, he sees that all around the chamber are statues of people who have hurt or betrayed him in some way--Pasha, his father and mother, his cousin, Elise, Zin's daughter...and in the center of the chamber is a statue of Pearl, her arms held out to him as she'd done in the forest, frozen in a thin sheath of ice.]
you only see what your eyes want to see
[the voice is coming from the statue, but Pearl doesn't move]
how can life be what you want it to be?
[Hadji looks around at the other statutes, each one representing someone who betrayed or abandoned him in some way]
you're frozen
when your heart's not open
[Hadji looks upward at the roof high above his head, a dome of opaque ice]
if I could melt your heart
[he looks at the kukri he still holds in his hand]
we'd never be apart
[he looks upward again and throws the kukri at the ceiling]
give yourself to me
[the kukri spirals slowly upward]
you are the key
[it strikes the dome and shatters it, letting bright white sunlight stream into the chamber]
if I could melt your heart
[Hadji holds his hand up to shield his eyes]
we'd never be apart
[the statues ringing the chamber melt in the sunlight, dissolving in the brilliance]
give yourself to me
[Hadji looks to the center of the room, and Pearl is standing there, alive and holding out her hand to him, smiling and singing to him]
you are the key
[Hadji smiles in return, steps forward to take her hand, and as they touch, the light fills the screen and they both fade from view]
[the screen turns from white to dark, and we see Pearl lying in her bed, and she opens her eyes to sing the final line of the song to the darkness of her room]
if I could melt your heart...
