What Girls Want By Purple The clouds rolled gently past the sun, a white dove sored gracefully among the pure white cotton puffs set against the fair, blue spring sky. In his beak the dove held thin blue thread with intent to carry it back to his nest, but the string feel from the bird's grasp and was taken by the gentle winds. The string began a slow decent to Earth, twisting various ways with the currents in the sky. Soon the clouds parted and Rockport, Maine could be seen from high above, had the string owned any eyes. The string feel faster and whipped past a tree before finally settling in the red hair of a female high school student as she walked from school. "You have something in your hair, Jessie," a soft, smooth male voice informed the red haired girl. The owner of the voice lifted a strong hand to the silky red hair and gently removed the string. "Thank you, Hadji," Jessie told her companion in the white turban and purple shirt. Her green eyes reflected the sunlight as the same beams played upon her hair and gave it bright highlights. "Can you guys believe we got homework over spring break?" another male voice enquired, slightly disrupting the peaceful walk. His icy blue eyes showed his love for adventure. The careless style of the boy's nearly ashblond hair reflected his tendency to be reckless. "Think ten days is enough to do a term paper, Jonny?" Jessie questioned the blond boy teasingly. "I think ten days is enough to make a few improvements on Quest World and I'm eager to start. Wanna race home, Jess?" The thought of possibly beating Jessie along with having a few moments alone with her made Jonny's heart rate increase slightly. "I see you are eager to lose," Jessie retorted with a good humored laugh. "If I may have a moment of your time, Jessie," Hadji began. "I truly need to speak with you." "Well, I'll see you two back at the house," Jonny called, already in a run. Jessie looked at Hadji and re returned the gaze, the walk slowed to a leisurely stroll. "Well,... I have received a difficult research assignment from my psychology teacher and I was wondering if you would assist me," Hadji said, his tone not as smooth and his eyes never leaving Jessie's. "Sure, Hadji," Jessie responded in her usual warm and friendly tone. "What is the topic?" "Umm..., " Hadji seemed to become more nervous. "We are supposed to write a paper dealing with the opposite gender and what they would want when looking for a partner." "So you want to know my idea of the perfect guy?" Jessie asked. Hadji only nodded, trying with difficulty to restrain a blush. Jessie slowed down her stroll, Hadji matching her pace. Jessie looked up at the sky in thought. "Well," Jessie began. "I like a guy that is not intimidated by my intelligence or abilities." Hadji nodded, took out a note pad and pen, and began to write. "I want him to be able to consider me one of his friends as well as a girlfriend," Jessie continued. "And not expect me to wear something tight or short on a date." Hadji surprised a giggle. "And sometimes it is nice to have a little romance. An occasional flower or some other surprise. But I do not mind if a boy will make a complete fool of himself for me." Jessie smiled. The Quest Compound was slowly coming into view so Hadji and Jessie stopped near a large tree to finish the interview. "Having many things in common helps," Jessie stated in a matter-of-fact tone. "As the way you and Jonny do?" Hadji asked, his eyes locked on his notepad. "Umm... Yes," Jessie said in a wavering voice, cheeks slightly crimson. "Thank you, Jessie," Hadji said with as much coolness as he could gather. "The information you have provided me with will help me greatly." Hadji started walking towards the house. "I also like a guy that takes the time to find out what girls want," Jessie said in a loud whisper. Hadji stopped and slowly turned, facing Jessie as she walked towards him and looked up into his gentle brown eyes. Her own eyes were filled with a long hidden affection reaching beyond friendship. Hadji once again lifted a strong hand to Jessie's hair, this time brushing it away from her face. The dove whom had lost the string flew low and landed in the tree Hadji and Jessie stood under, though the two friends would not have noticed a comet landing on the ground. Hadji lowered slightly while Jessie leaned towards him and their lips met in a tender kiss. Clouds continued the roll across the blue spring sky while Hadji and Jessie embraced each other and the intimate kiss. For once, Hadji's approach to love was direct and logical unlike past infatuations based solely on external beauty. ~The End~ Short and semisweet. Comments? Complements?
